TPS65981: No USB2.0 Data on RP Bus

Part Number: TPS65986

Hello,

I am working on a design with TPS65981, and am having issues getting USB 2.0 data out on the RP Bus. The current set up is as follows: TPS65981EVM D+/D- lines connected to FTDI USB to SPI test board, I connect the TPS65981EVM to my PC via a USB-C cable and can't see the FTDI chip through the TPS65981.

I am thinking there may be some issue with my FW. My project as configured from the TPS65981 Application Customization tool is attached. Is there anything out of the ordinary with my project that could be causing this issue?

Thank you,

Jon

  • Hi Jon,

The FTDI can only be accessed through the micro-USB connector that is on the FTDI USB to SPI test board. The FTDI will not enumerate through the USB-C port on the 81EVM since the USB data lines are not connected.

  • Hi Eric,

We are able to see valid data go between the TPS65981EVM and FTDI board in Linux, but it disconnects and only the 65981 is identified. It seems like since there is that initial transfer there is some sort of connection and then it goes away shortly there after. I have also been able to recreate the issue by connecting a USB2.0 flash drive to the RP_P and RP_N. The flash drive's light will light up for about a second then turn off and I get an error in Windows saying my USB device has malfunctioned.

Have you seen this type of problem before? Do you have any tips to solve this behavior?

    Thank you for the help,
    Jon
  • Hi Jon,

If that is the case, I would suggest only enabling USB RP and disabling USB EP and USB billboarding.

This would ensure that the internal USB Mux is always active.
