TPS65986: Loading firmware using USB endpoint

Hello,

I am trying to connect TPS65986 EVM to TPS6598x host interface tool using USB endpoint. But I am unable to have a successful connection.

Kindly provide a detailed procedure of using USB endpoint and loading firmware through it.

Hi Sahana,

The USB Endpoint must first be enabled in the configuration of the device. I believe by default it is disabled. You will need to go in over I2C or SPI to enabled the USB Endpoint in register (0x28) System Configuration.

Hi Eric,

While installing the Host interface utility tool, I have enabled USB Endpoint driver installation. But when I connect TPS65986 EVM board to my PC through type-C cable, the driver is not getting detected in device manager.

Hi Eric,

I have few questions to be clarified :
1) Is it required to use I2C lines for loading firmware through usb endpoint?
2) Can we load firmware on an empty SPI Flash using USB Endpoint or is it required to have a pre-loaded SPI Flash with usb EP enabled in it?

Hi Sahana,

1. Yes, the USB Endpoint will go through the USB D+/D- and will need a low region image for flashing.

2. No, there must be a valid configuration with USB EP enabled before the SPI Flash can be updated through USB EP.

Hi Eric,

For loading firmware through USB Endpoint, I am connecting host PC to TPS65986 EVM using type A to type C cable.

Along with this do we need to connect I2C lines- SDA and SCL using adapter (Advaark)?

Hi Sahana,

You should just need the USB C to A cable to program over the USB Endpoint. It would use the USB2.0 D+/D- lines to do so.
