TCAN1042-Q1: How to verify TCAN1042 performance

Part Number: TCAN1042-Q1

Hi,

We have two projects which adopt TCAN1042 as the CAN transceiver to communicate our productions with car-system.

Currently, we're surveying the related test method and test items to verify the CAN performance.

Hope we could get TI's support to survey the topics, would you help them?

And could you check what kind of equipment we should buy, CAN analyzer?

Many Thanks!!!

BR~ Mars

  • Mars,

A CAN analyzer is certainly helpful, especially for long-term development, but for verifying the performance at the beginning, it's not totally necessary. A good place to start is to verify the transmit, bus, and receive signals are all working and correct in terms of expected behavior. Power the device on, apply a logic high to the enable pin for normal mode, and send a 250kHz, 0-5V square wave on TXD. Monitor CANH, CANL, and RXD to verify that the square is propagating through the transceiver itself correctly.

Once this operation is verified, it would be useful to communicate along a bus (CANH and CANL) with other CAN transceivers, to make sure the termination value and placement is correct. Once a CAN controller is incorporated, it's a good idea to run these tests and monitor the transmit and receive error counters to make sure they aren't incrementing, and placing the nodes into error passive or bus off states.

If you want a PowerPoint slide deck explaining all of this with a bit more detail, email me (you can find my email by clicking on my user name) and I can send it over.

    Regards,
