CAN tranceiver

Hi Experts,

How to connect DK-TM4C129X with OBD connector.  I bought DK-TM4C129X few days back and figured out that it has CAN support but it has Tx/Rx CAN pins but wrt CAN connector the pin layout is different.

I hope I need a CAN tranceiver which will help to convert Rx/Tx to CAN High/low. Can you please recommend any standard module for CAN tranceiver ?

Regards,

Satish

  • Satish,

So your OBD connector has CANH and CANL but the DK-TM4C129X has TXD and RXD? Is that correct?

The TCAN1042 could be a good solution, it does exactly what you described; a physical layer to convert controller signals to communicate along the CAN bus. Are there any other functions you need the CAN transceiver to have? We have plenty of options with CAN transceivers.

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is correct. I am working on the Development kit which interacts with the Car over CAN OBD port. Its a PoC. Is there any development module/kit for this CAN transceivers ? I can easily use this by drawing wires from Development board to CAN Transceiver.

  • Satish,

You can find an EVM for this CAN transceiver at www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware. The Evaluation module comes with a PCB with a TCAN1042 device populated that allows for easy testing and evaluation of the TCAN1042 device. All signals are brought out to test points and/or headers.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,
