TDP142: Ask for DP1.4 active cable design

Part Number: TDP142
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS181, TDP158, SN75DP159

Hi Webmaster,

My customer hope their DP1.4 active cable to support 10meter or 15meter.

Based on TDP142 datasheet, we known how to design source or sink side.

But both of sides place the chipset into the PCB board.

If customer desire to design TDP142 redriver, which side should close to? Source or sink?

Can they only place TDP142 to sink side or source side under long cable condition?

Regards,

David

TDP142 has a RX linear equalizer to compensate the channel insertion loss, so the ideal placement would be

Long cable --- TDP142 RX --- TDP142 TX --- Short, please make sure the insertion loss of 10m or 15m is within TDP142 linear equalization range.

    Thanks

  • Hi David,

Thanks your feedback. TDP142 can disable I2C control and place external resisters to config the EQ.
Do we have another part to support HDMI2.0 redriver which controlled by hardware setting?
Most of cable manufacturer dislike I2C control and prefer to design pure hardware solution.

For HDMI, you are probably looking at TMDS181, which is HDMI2.0 retimer used primarily on the sink side. SN75DP159 which is a DP++/AC coupled TMDS to HDMI retimer, and TDP158 which is a DP++/AC coupled TMDS to HDMI redriver.

All these devices, including TDP142 can be configured either using I2C or hardware setting.

    Thanks
