SN65HVD78: Current consumption using SN65HVD78 in RX mode only?

Part Number: SN65HVD78

Hello Interface Experts,

Application is running in receiving mode only and transmitter is not used.

There is a graph 8 given for the “dynamic supply current consumption Versus signaling rate”.

Is it same for both transmitter and receiver section of the SN65HVD78, even though it is a half-duplex device? There is no split specified in the datasheet for Transmitter and Receiver.

In other words - what is the RX power consumption versus signaling using only RX - not using TX at all...

  • James,

The power consumption of the driver is load dependent. This means if the load takes more current (less resistance or more capacitive), the drive needs more power to work with it. The RX's power consumption is kind of constant. You can use the quiescent current of Icc spec to estimate it. Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Regards,
    Hao
