TCAN1042HGV: termination resistor

Guru 29720 points

Part Number: TCAN1042HGV

Hi Team,

My customer's considers to use TCAN1042HGV and their application is the following.
Could you tell me recommended termination resistor values (red painted part) to connect Node1, Node2 and Node3 each in this case?

Best Regards,
Yaita

  • Hello Yaita-san,

The typical recommendation for CAN buses is to place a 120-Ohm termination resistance at the two furthest ends of the network. This is usually a good starting point. Some networks that feature long distances from each node to the main bus line (i.e., long stub nodes) benefit from higher-impedance termination at the central nodes (i.e., Nodes 2 and 3 in the figure above). I would only introduce this if signal integrity concerns were observed, though.
