TLK2201B: What's the difference between this ethernet SerDes and ethernet PHY like DP8 series?

Part Number: TLK2201B

Hi there,

What's the difference between them? Just like a standard ethernet PHY and a non-standard ethernet PHY?

I see from a post that the ethernet SerDes like TLK2201B does not support 10/100/1000BaseT operation, but can it be used with ethernet MAC by RGMII interface?

My real use case is that I have one Soc with Gbe MAC and an ethernet switch(both has RGMII interface), but they are on seperate PCBs, about 1 meter away. Can I use two TLK2201B for connection between these two MACs? Because if I use direct MAC to MAC connection by RGMII, it will be too long for RGMII signal.

However, this may be overkill because I can use ethernet PHY without magnetics... sounds better...

Is there any other better solutions?

Thank you.
