TPS65987D: Programming Flash via I2C

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981

Hi Team,

to my understanding you could programm the flash of TPS65981/2/6 via I2C over the TPS part with "TPS6598X Host Interface Utility Tool". Is it also possible to program the flash with I2C over the TPS65987D? The tools doesn't seem to support the 7D.

Best regards

Simon

  • Hi Simon,

The same process should work on the TPS65987D. We have an app note on the TPS65987D product page that is highlighting how this process is implemented. Although it it not yet available in the latest tool, you could still use the older GUI to do the I2C update.

  • Hi Eric,

when flashing with the host interface tools there is an error while the newer GUI seems to work.

Do you know what could be the reason here?

  • Hi Simon,

When you are programming over I2C, you can only use the Low-Region image. It seems like you might be using the full-flash instead. That would cause a failure.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • Hi Eric,

it didn't work like this. Any configuration still wrong?

    Any additional comment?

  • Hi Simon,

I just spoke with our tool developer and we do indeed have the Host I/F fw update mechanism included in the latest tool. To access it, please follow these steps:

    1. load a new project using tool version 4.03.

    2. connect your board via I2C to your PC using the aardvark or FTDI

    3. Enter Debug Mode in the tool by selecting Debug --> Debug Mode.

    4. Click on the commands tab

    5. Find the Host I/F Firmware Update item in the list on the left.

    6. follow the included instructions for that command.
