TRSF3232E: TRSF3232E Support 6m Cable Length

Part Number: TRSF3232E

Hi,

May I know  TRSF3232E if can support 6m Cable Length?

Any risk or Cable spec requirement about 6m Cable Length?

Thanks.

Regards,

Eric

  • Eric,

Generally 6 m would be OK for this device.

In general, the important thing to consider is the capacitive loading of the cabling, since this can slow down the signaling and create timing uncertainties (jitter). The RS-232 standard recommends a maximum load capacitance of 2500 pF, which for most cables translates to a line length of about 15-20 m.

Note that the maximum data rate that can be supported may be decreased with longer cables, though. The TRSF3232E is defined to support a data rate of 1 Mbps with up to 1000 pF of capacitive loading. I would expect your 6-m cable to have less than 1000 pF of parasitic capacitance, but you may want to confirm this.
