TPS25820: TPS258020 : Sourcing a PD compilant device

Hi,

What will happen if we connect a PD compilant sink device to the TPS258020? Will the TPS258020 source it maximum current allowed by CHG config? or will the PD device source the minimum allowed for a non PD compilant source?

Hi Juan,

When the TPS25820 advertises to the sink device its current capability, the sink device and source should negotiate the current through VBUS. Note the TPS25820 will not turn ON it's pass FET unless there is a compliant sink device connected.

Yes, the power delivery compilant system to which the system will be pluged is a Dual Role Port.

I assume that the current negotiation could be done, I am right¿

Hi Juan,

That is correct, when the roles are set (sinking/sourcing), the current is negotiated.

Hi Darwing,

We have made a set up with our prototype. But we are having some issues with the TPS258020 behaviour.

We use a 5.1KR Pulldown resistor in CC1 line for testing purposes. During the test stage, when the device was powered, SINK signal going LOW.

Once we test every signal and everything was ok, we remove the 5.1KR resistor and we test the prototype against several PD compiland Dual Role systems, but the prototype is not delivering power (SINK signal is not going LOW).

Do you know what could be the issue here?
