Hi Team,

I wanted to use TUSB9261 in one of the designs.

The application is that I need USB2.0-to SATA conversion. The TUSB9261 will be connected to external HDD over SATA interface.

My question is suppose I want to take the backup of data from external HDD over USB interface , can the below block diagram work.

During normal operation, USB2.0 lines from the processor is selected to the TUSB9261 chip and when backup is required, USB3.0 will be connected to the TUSB9261 chip. IS ther any code/firmware for the above scenario. Please update if this application is possible.

it should work, but why you need mux? does USB2/USB3 from same host?

Hi Brian,

As per TUSB9261 datasheet, it gives preference to USB3.0 first and then checks for USB2.0 connection. In my case , I need USB 3.0 connection for retrieving data back from external HDD (backup of data), and USB2.0 for normal USB-to-SATA conversion. The MUX will allow only USB2.0 lines during normal operation, and once there is a need for storing the data, USB3.0 will be activated and USB2.0 will be cutoff.

Does TI has any firmware/code for Backup storage ,i.e. getting the data from external HDD and storing it through USB3.0 lines to a PC?

Hi Sumit,

No, TI does not have any firmware for Backup Storage.

When switching between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 operation, the TUSB9261 will need to be completely re-enumerated by the Host controller. Also, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 cannot be active on the TUSB9261 simultaneously.

Hi,

Can external JTAG be used for flashing the default firmware for TUSB9261 ? Also if by using JTAG, the boot code can be loaded on external NOR Flash.

Hi Sumit,

No the JTAG interface for the TUSB9261 is for TI internal factory test only.
