Hi,

Majority of the pins are the same for 65982 and 65986 but there is few differences:

65982 LSX_P2R -> 65986 NC
65982 LSX_R2P -> 65986 GND
65982 I2C_SDA2 -> 65986 GND
65982 I2C_SCL2 -> 65986 GND
65982 I2C_IRQ2Z -> 65986 NC
65982 HV gate2 -> 65986 NC
65982 HV gate1 -> 65986 NC

Can 65982 be used on 65986's footprint? Is there much SW work expected if 65986 is changed to 65982?

    Hi Juha,

    TPS65986 has the exact same footprint as TPS65982 but some of the features are not available in 986 and corresponding pins should be grounded for 986 (as you have correctly pointed). Please note you can use the same footprint as 982 but not the same schematic and layout due to differences in pin connections. There's no additional SW (assuming EC firmware) is required, just keep in mind the limitation of 986 and don't try to use features which are not supported by 986. As far as firmware of TPS65986 is concerned the configuration utility takes care of the differences.
