DP83TC811R-Q1: Question about available connector for high speed interface

Part Number: DP83TC811R-Q1

Hi Champs,

I got question from my customer who thinks DP83TC811R-Q1 as candidate for their project.

The customer wants to know if it's possible to use normal connector rather than high speed connector for high speed data transmission with DP83TC811R-Q1.

Could you give some comments?

Best regards,

  • Hi Nobuo-san,

What connector is meant when you say "normal connector"? Do you mean RJ45 connector?

What testing will be done with the connector? Is it just data path that is necessary, or will CISPR-25 level 5 need to be passed as well?

    Best,
  • Hi Rob-san,

Yes, I meant RJ45 connector as "normal connector".

Customer is impressed by DP83TC811R-Q1 because it could be used over non-shielded twist pair cable, and wondered if they could use connector like RJ45.

CISPR-25 class 4 or 5 would be required to pass.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Nobuo-san,

A normal connector... non-standard connector.... can be used with the 811, but the connector must have symmetry such that the impedance does not change by more than +/-5% from 100 ohm differential.

This means the connector must have good symmetry in its geometry, there must be well controlled untwist length of the differential cable at the connector, and any adjacent signals must be kept spaced away from the 811 signals.

To discuss this further, we would need to know the exact connector and we could suggest which pins should be used for the 811 interface.

    Best Regards,
  • Hi Rob-san,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I will ask to the customer about which connector they would like to use, and will get back with the feedback and open related question.

    Best regards,
