DS90UA101-Q1: Maximum Chanel with TDM format

Part Number: DS90UA101-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UA102-Q1

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask DS90UA101-Q1?

There is the description on the data sheet P24;
"If the number of audio channels is more than 8, DS90UA101-Q1/DS90UA102-Q1 can easily support multiplexed data with additional devices to multiplex and de-multiplex the data.
  The number of channels multiplexed on each data line must be selected as a power of 2, for example, 2/ 4/ 8."

We would like to configure 16 audio channels, is it possible to configure it using one DS90UA101-Q1 device?
Does "with additional devices to multiplex and de-multiplex the data." mean that it requires to use two DS90UA101-Q1 devices for 16 audio channels?
Could you give us the configuration In case of 16 audio channels?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Matsumoto-san,

    You could use two (2) DS90UA101-Q1 to get 16 chanels with a common PCLK but you will get skew between the devices.

    I can recommend another device that can accomodate the 16 channels but have a question first; do you want a coax or STP cable interface?

  • Darryl san

    Thank you so much for your support.

    I can recommend another device that can accomodate the 16 channels but have a question first; do you want a coax or STP cable interface?
    ->The customer doesn't judge that they will use coax or STP cable interface. As our assumption, both type is OK.

    Kind regards,

    We would like to confirm configuration.
    Please refer to the follow and could you give us the reply?

    We assume that your days are so busy, however could you share us your advice?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Matsumoto-san,
    Actually you can have up to 24 channels of I2S audio with this part. Each input contains L and R. You can use GPI0, GPI1, GPI2, GPI3 as additional audio inputs in addition to DIN0-DIN7.

    Thank you so much for your support always!

    We would like to confirm as follows;

    <Confirmation1>
    Actually you can have up to 24 channels of I2S audio with this part.
    Each input contains L and R.
    You can use GPI0, GPI1, GPI2, GPI3 as additional audio inputs in addition to DIN0-DIN7.
    ->OK, we got that it is possible to transmit 24ch audio data(L, R×8) using DS90UA101-Q1's DIN0-DIN7 and GPIO0-3.
       So, these data trasmits at the same time, right?

    <Confirmation2>
    On the data sheet, there is the description as follows;
    ->In case of TDM format, if we would like to transmit 16ch audio data(L, R×8), we assume that it requires 2 devices, right?

    We need your help.

    Kind regards,

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Matsumoto-san,
    Sorry for the delay. Been out of the office, actually still out of the office
    In regards to your question
    ... So, these data transmits at the same time, right? yes
    ... ->In case of TDM format, if we would like to transmit 16ch audio data(L, R×8), we assume that it requires 2 devices, right? only one device is needed. 16ch audio TDM should be sent on one channel as it should be multiplexed on one channel.
