TUSB8041: TUSB8041 configuration

Part Number: TUSB8041
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8042

Hi team,

My customer Hikvision is using TUSB8041 to expand one USB3.0 port to 2 USB2.0 ports and 1 USB3.0 port. Now they have some questions need you help:

1. Can we provide reference code if they use EEPROM mode?

2. Can they use a I2C master to control the SMBUS?

3. Can they do nothing in software to realize their reqirments?

4. Please help review the schematic as attached.

  • Hi Rory,

    1. Yes, please see: www.ti.com/.../sllu311.pdf
    2. Yes
    3. Yes, EEPROM or SMBUS is not required, the hub can be configured using pin configuration.
    4. TEST pin should be pulled low. We cannot verify RESET timing based on the circuit, the customer will need to verify that the reset timing meets specification. SMBUSz should not be pulled low unless a SMBUS (I2C) host is used.
To meet USB-IF compliance requirements - not required functionally, just for a logo.
    - TUSB8042 meets the latest USB 3.1 specification updates
    - Unused ports should be marked via I2C/SMBUS or OTP
    - Overcrurrent reporting is required
    - The hub is marked as ganged, but the power switches do not appear to be ganged.

  • Hi JMMN
TEST pin is PD I/O, can be left unconnected?
  • Hi Carl,

The recommendation is still to install an external pulldown.
