TVS2700: Flat Clamp TVS in series

Part Number: TVS2700
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVS2701, TVS2201

Hello,

I would like to use the flat clamp devices with a +48VDC supply.  Can I stack two of the TVS2701 (Vrwm would then be 54V) in series as with stand TVS devices?  I realize the dynamic resistance will double, but power dissipation should be the same in each device.  Is there any reason you would recommend against this?

Thank you

  • David-

There should be no issue in doing this as the power will share uniformly between the two devices and they will split the clamping voltage. Do you need to be able to withstand -48V as well? If not, consider using unidirectional devices rather than bidirectional devices. Also, if you are protecting a 48V DC supply, you can also consider using a TVS2201 and a TVS2701 so that the VRWM is 49 and closer to your working voltage!

    Thanks,
    Alec
