Dear all,

My application is one typeC port with PD+USB3.0 function, when insert DP device, the system should give some message to notify the customer.

But now, we checked the 0x5F register Bit8 and bit9 , those bit has no change, is it the normal behavior?

How to get this notification function, do you have any suggestions?

Hi John,

Data status would change once DisplayPort mode has been entered. You can enable the I2C interrupts for "Plug insert or removal" and also "Data Status update" and base your EC code off of those 2 events.

Hi Eric,

For this port, it is only need PD+USB3.0 function, so we did not set anything with the DP mode, so can the PD controller enter the DP mode?
If Customer don't need the DP function, but we need the information DP device insertion, how to set the FW?

Hi John,

In this case, they would still see USB3 bit set once it has enumerated. Again, the same 2 I2C interrupts can be used to monitor when there is a change in those registers.

Could you please help clarify which register can be used to differentiate the USB device and DP device?
Since they need this information to inform users.

You can look at Data Status (0x5F) when you receive the data status update interrupt.

Hi Eric,

My question is how to distinguish the USB and DP device without DP setting in FW since we don't need DP function, as I mention initially, 0x5F register bit 8,9 will not change.
So Do you have any suggestions?

Hi John,

The USB3 connection bit in Data Status (0x5F) would change when a USB3 device is connected. Please enable the I2C interrupt for Data status update so that your EC is interrupted when this bit changes.

Hi John,

You could look at the DP SID Status register (0x58) to determine the DisplayPort status when a device is connected.

You could use the DP_Mode_Active byte to see if there is a DisplayPort connection.

Hi Eric,

In the FW, I didn't not set the display port section in the FW since customer don't need the DP function for this port, please refer to the attached file.

Customer tested with DP device, the DP_Mode_Active is always 0, no change.

could you please help confirm what should be checked if the DP_Mode_Active will change if inserting the DP deviceDP mode setting.docx?

Hi John,

We would only be able to detect if a DP device is connected if DP mode is enabled on the TPS65982. We could not detect for DP devices without it.
