TPS65982: TPS65982: Choose Highest Power Source

Hi Sirs,

My customer used two TPS65982 and shared external flash to desgined a Dual-Port Notebook application without DC barrel jack.

First, they used one 45W USB-C adapter to provide power source to system and battery charger.

After 45W adapter provided power to system working well, they also used one 65W USB-C adapter to provide power source to anther port.

They found the TPS65982 still choose 45W adapter to provide power source to system.

A few questions as below.

1. Why the TPS65982 didn't have to choose highest power source? may I know the GUI setting can to fix it? or need the EC to control TPS65982 to choose the power souce path?

2. My customer would like to read the PP_EXT path current data from register, how to get them?

Hi Henry,

1. Since there are two TPS65982's in your system, the EC would need to control which one accepts the PD adapter.

2. They can read the PP_EXT current using the ADCs 4CC command on the external power path (I_PP_EXT)

Hi Sir,

For question 1, do you mean we need to assign a GPIO event to EC when a PD adapter plug-in USB-C port?

Hi Henry,

No, you could enable an I2C interrupt to indicate to the EC when they will need to adjust the source/sink capabilities. There is no extra GPIO needed.
