DP83867E: Start of frame detection for IEEE 1588 time stamp

Part Number: DP83867E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83816, DP83869

Dear,

One of my customers wants to use the DP83867ERGZT, as a part of a generic design block (so this part will be used in many connected applications). Long term availability is a very important requirement (20 years starting from now on).

Can you give a statement around this longevity topic related to the DP83867ERGZT.

Secondly, the customer wants to use the Start of Frame Detect of IEEE1588 time stamp. Is there an indication or roadmap of these devices available, which will have this feature as well?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

With kind regards,

Wim van der Steeg

  • Hi Wim,

The DP83867 will be available for a long time as it is a device targeted at industrial customers. TI Ethernet has a history of keeping the PHYs available for 15+ years. Please see DP83848, DP83816, etc.

DP83867, DP83822, DP83869, all have the start of frame detect function.

    Best Regards,
  • Dear,

The end customer is ASML, and longevity is a important decision point in selecting devices at this customer. I've been told that there is a non-obsolescence policy at Texas Instruments. Devices will stay in production as longs as there is no alternative solutions available. Can you confirm this? Or give me this statement in written?

Secondly, Is there a PHY roadmap available, including new devices having the start of frame detection function? The devices as given in the answer are all existing parts.

Thanks in advance and kind regards,

    Wim van der Steeg
  • Hi Wim,

We normally share the product roadmap under NDA only. If you have a TI sales contact, please use them for this information.

Our corporate product obsolescence policy can be viewed here: www.ti.com/.../product-change-notification.html

There is a link to an email address to ask your specific question about the non-obsolescence specific to Ethernet PHYs.

    Best Regards,
