Hi,

I have used DRP prefers host template with the following changes to template configurations:

In control registers I have enabled Process swap to UFP and Initiate swap to UFP and disable Process swap to DFP / initiate swap to DFP
I have two PDOs in TX sink i.e 5V/0A and 20V/3A
I have verified register settings with Host interface utilities tool.
In Port information under System Configuration I have "Toggles R_p/R-d on CC ( with trySrc) , supports data/Power role swap
PP_5V0 switch configured as swtich output enabled
PP_HV disabled.
Enabled GPIO_1 for event "Allowed (Active low) event and GPIO_2 for event "Cable orientation"

Our requirement are as follows:

1.is to act as as a sink with PD negotiation of 20V.3A capability.

2. Also be a UFP device when connected to a PC

3. No DP or Intel VID

3.USB gen 2 and Gen3 supported

Hi Ali,

1. You set this register in a contradictory method. With both Initiate to DFP and UFP, the PD controller will continue to initiate Data Role Swaps. Please only have either Initiate to DFP or Initiate to UFP set. Not both.
2. This is ok.
3. This is ok.
4. This is ok.
5. This is ok.
6. This is ok.
7. This is ok.

Everything else should be okay. I would suggest obtaining a TPS65982EVM for testing your configuration to ensure it is behaving how you expect.

Thanks for your reply! I am doing all this work on TPS65982 EVM . I have on Process swap to UFP and initiate swap to UFP enabled . DFP is disabled . Basically what I want is Configuration ID 7: High-Power Bus-Powered Device. How do I get the settings for it ? I tried import in application customization tool but it doesn't get updated with settings . Can you please guide me here

Hi Ali,

You are correctly creating your configuration file. From your description, it sounds like you are already there. Once you are satisfied with your settings, you can create your full flash binary image and load it onto your PCB for testing.

I have redone the project using High power device configuration. Please see attached document and let me know if that would work do you see any issues. I can't attach file for some reason . Please send me your email. Here is what I have done:

1. In control registers I have enabled Process swap to UFP and Process swap to sink
2. I have 3 PDOs in TX sink i.e 5V/3A, 12/3A and 20V/3A
3. I have verified register settings with Host interface utilities tool by setting EVM dip switch and reading vis host tool and then setting them in application customization tool.
4. In Port information under System Configuration I have "Toggles R_p/R-d on CC , supports data/Power role swap
5. PP_5V0 switch configured as swtich output disabled
6. PP_HV disabled.
7. PP_HVE configured as input
8. Enabled GPIO_1 for event "Allowed (Active low) event and GPIO_2 for event "Cable orientation"

Hi Eric,

Thanks for feedback on schematic! I got our boards - I have setup our board as UFP device to sink 20 V. I see it negotiates 20V but I am not seeing any voltage on PP_HV0 and PP_HV. I have tried configuring them as input and output both. Please help.

Hi Ali,

Are you booting from VBUS power? I would suggest checking your pin strapping on BUSPOWERZ to see if that setting will close the power path that you desire.

HI Eric ,
yes VBUS - I am able to negotate 20V but don't have any power on PP_HV or PP_5V0. I have configured my device for config 7 - high power sink. I don't have any source PDO but have sink PDOs.

Please refer to section 6.2.2 of the Datasheet to check if your pin strapping on BUSPOWERZ is correct: www.ti.com/.../tps65982.pdf

I am unable to disable the EP mode - even though in customization tool I disable it but when I read it back from utilities tool it reads back enabled. can you help

Hi Ali,

I would suggest changing the setting in your default config that's loaded into the SPI-flash as opposed to doing so during run-time. Also, if you want to detect a device in pass through mode, wouldn't you want both USB EP and RP paths enabled?
