SN65HVD256: Recommend device

Part Number: SN65HVD256
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN337, TCAN330, SN65HVD234, SN65HVD230

Hello,

Our customer use the SN65HVD256 with the VRXD as 3.3V.

The customer are considering a new project. They will use the supply voltage as only 3.3V.

They are looking for the CAN transceiver with same function as the SN65HVD256 except for the VRXD pin.

Do you have any recommend device?

The application of the customer is not automotive. So they do not need Q1 grade.

Best Regards,

Naoki Aoyama

  • Aoyama-san,

Does the customer have any specific function in mind to replace of VRXD on pin 5?

The SN65HVD23x series is powered off 3.3V and has a slope control function on pin 8, that also functions as a mode control pin. Pulling it up to VCC puts it in a low power listen only mode (Silent mode), and pulling it to GND puts it in the normal high speed mode.

The TCAN330 and TCAN337 both have low power Silent mode as well which functions the same way as the SN65HVD23x devices. The difference is there is no slope control, just mode switching on pin 8.

The absolute maximum ratings are different between the two devices as well.

Have the customer look over the first few pages of the SN65HVD230, SN65HVD234, and TCAN33x datasheets, these are the 3.3V CAN transceivers TI has to offer.

    Regards,

  • Hello Eric,

    Thank you for your reply.
I will suggest the customer to choose from the SN65HVD230, SN65HVD234 and TCAN33x.

    Thanks,
    Naoki Aoyama
