Hi Team,

My customer considers to use two TUSB501s in series as the following in their board.
The background is it is difficult to improve signal quality of USB3.0 with one TUSB501 only.

Is it reasonable constitution that two TUSB501s in series?
(Do you know the same application as above?)
My customer concerns about if it is no ploblem to establish USB3.0 link with USB host to USB device that is connected to USB Type-C connector.

Best Regards,
Yaita

  • Hi Team,

Could you support for this inquiry?
I would like to know if it is possible to put two TUSB501s in series.

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Two TUSB501's can be placed in series, however to resolve the issue we need to understand what is failing. Are the redriver, mux and Type-C connector all on the same PCB? If so what is the trace length from the Host to redriver and mux? In general, the TUSB501 would be placed close to the mux on the Rx channel.

What is failing as far as signal quality, Tx eye or Rx Jit Tol test? If Tx is failing, the 2nd TUSB501 could be placed on the Tx path close to the mux to recover the loss from the Host to the Connector.
