TPS25810: PD detect with USB 3.1 and 3A charging

Hi,

My customer would like to convert a USB type A to USB type C, with 5V 3A power advertising, USB 2 and USB3/3.1 signal. Do not need DP.

had selected TPS25810 + HD3SS3220.

As TPS25810 does not implement PD, does that means it will not be able to identify e-mark cables? if that is the case, will it violate the USB-C cable assembly requirement? (It says that e-marked cables is required if USB3.1 and 3A is supported).

Hi Sai,

Per the TPS25810 datasheet, "If the UFP is attached using an electronically marked cable, the TPS25810 also applies VCONN power to the cable CC pin." Can you help clarify the customer question? Thanks!

Thanks Darwin,

Concern is that if we support USB3.0 and 3A current, based on USB-C cable requirement, e-marked cable is required. But since TPS25810 can’t read the e-marker, a user will still be able to get 3A using a normal non-emarked cable right ? which is a violation of spec below ?

Hi SK,

Per our discussion offline. The active cable is independent of the current requirements. For example, you can have a non-emarked cable and still negotiate the 3A.
