DP83849IF: DP83849 Fiber extender mode, Z(idle) and register setting

Part Number: DP83849IF

Hi Sir,.

1.

if DP83849IF  Fiber extender mode

PHY A : BERT (PRBS7 signal )
PHY B : SFP module
=> From BERT一PRBS7 to PHY A , then  get  eye diagram through SFP module  possible ?

2. How`s Z (Idle) setting low or high ?

3. could we set register instead of H/W ex. 1.0.0. (Ex: ED_EN_A/B)....

  • Hi Philip,

Can you explain the purpose of this experiment? The SFP module will generate optical signals and cannot be directly connected to a scope. Also in order for the PHY to transmit data on the optical interface, it should have a valid linkup. The SFP module will need to be connected to a link partner.

  • Hi Khadye.,

customer would like to integrate PHY/module in the one PCB, so they assume to do

                 1 DP83849IF set Fiber extender mode (PHYA/PHYB support 100Base-Fx)

2 PHYA drow 100Mbps differential signal (PRBS7_Pseudo Randomness Binary Sequence)

3 sequence is PHYA (PRBS7) àfiber extender à PHYB à matching circuità scope (eye diagram)

modulate matching circuit then optimize eye diagram

Media converter mode will be set when matching circuit was done, . they would like to check the method if it was possible ,.

  • Hi Philip,

The media converter mode for the DP83849 has been tested. Here is a reference design: www.ti.com/.../TIDA-00306

Do you think this information will be enough for answering customer question? If not, why would the customer need to test this again?
