DP83867IR: DP83867IR link up time issue

Part Number: DP83867IR

Hi team,

Problems occur when enabling auto negotiation of DP83867IRRGZT.
The time from the power on to the link up of the DP83867 is slower than the other PHY (DP83849IDVS).

Followings are the test result.
   DP83867 IRRGZT: about 4 to 6 seconds
   DP83849IDVS / NOPB: about 2 to 3 seconds

We are aware that there is a difference between 100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps for the above two PHYs, but is the above time reasonable?
Also, when auto-negotiation is enabled, is there a possibility that the time to link up affects register setting or other factors?

Best regards,
Iwata Etsuji

  • Hi Iwata-san,

With Auto-Negotiation, the time may vary even between link-up to link-up. It's the procedure where the DUT and Link Partner try to converge to same configurations and align on Master/Slave , data rate, full duplex/half duplex etc.

To your second question, yes if you can force Master and Slave configuration, it will help time to link-up.

    regards,
