DP159RGZEVM: DP159RGZ Evaluation Module, daisy chain issue

Part Number: DP159RGZEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1064RNQEVM

Hi,

I am planning to use DP159RGZ Evaluation Module in order to convert DP signal to HDMI.

When I connect the board to a monitor (HDMI in) and a PC (DP out), it works out of the box.

If I connect the DP159RGZEVM to another board that does the usb-c to DP conversion it does not work.

Do you have any suggestion on how to solve this issue?

Here more details on the configuration:

I am using the following devices

- DP159RGZEMV (DP to HDMI conversion) [default jumper configuration]

- TUSB1064RNQEVM (usb-c to DP and USB3) [default jumper configuration]

Both boards work fine if connected stand alone between PC and monitor.

If I do the following connection:

PC -> usb-c cable -> TUSB1064RNQEVM -> DP cable -> DP159RGZEMV -> HDMI cable -> monitor

It does not work, no display image on the monitor.

Hope you could give me any useful advice.

best regards

Fabrizio

  • Hi Fabrizio,

The DP159 does not do DP to HDMI protocol conversion. The DP159 is a DP++ to HDMI retimer / redriver. The DP159 takes AC-coupled TMDS outputs and level shifts / redrives / retimes the signals to standard HDMI.

It sounds like the PC to Monitor set up support DP++, but the PC to USB C to Monitor setup only supports standard DP.

  • Hi JMMN,

    thanks for your reply.

I have few more question on that.

    - According with slla358.pdf "DP159 as DisplayPort Retimer" this chip SHOULD support DP to HDMI. Is it correct?

    - How can I access to SLLA359 document?
pag 8 states: "Note vast majority of registers mentioned in this section are not found in the SNx5DP159 datasheet, but can found at: DP159 X-Mode Registers (SLLA359). "

    Best regards

  • Hi,

SLLA358 describes "x-mode" which is a special mode of the DP159 where it acts as a DP to DP retimer when controlled by an external FPGA / uC. There is no mode of the DP159 where it converts DP to HDMI.
