Why SN65DP159 is more recommended?

TMDS181 is for DC coupled TMDS while SN65DP159 is for AC coupled TMDS input.

Are you referring to voltage leakage on TMDS181 VCC? If so, have you isolated which signal from the source is causing the leakage?

The problem is if the part is NOT powered then the bias on the TMDS lines drives the VCC line of the IC

This is expected since TMDS181 input has internal 50ohm termination to VCC. You need an external switch to tri-state the VCC to prevent the leakage.
