TPS65987-90EVM: Use it as sink?

Part Number: TPS65987-90EVM

Hi TI,

We have TPS65987-90EVM and we want to use it as sink only.We have connected USB type C charger (65 Watt) which gives voltages like 5V, 9V, 15V, 20V. We checked voltage at SYS_PWR, it gives 20V.

Is there any setting to get 9V or 15 V at SYS_PWR using the same charger?

  • Hi Sameer,

Generally the PD controllers will pick a PDO with highest voltage. However, if you want to make a 9V contract then you'll have to modify the sink PDOs and ensure that the PDO corresponding to the voltage you want is the highest voltage PDO.

Alternately you can use an external microcontroller to pick and random PDO of your choice.

Please click "This resolves my issue" if this answers your query.

    Thanks,

    Rahul

  • Hi Sameer,

In short, you can do it with the TPS65987-90EVM as it is.  Not with external hardware but with its firmware only. I have done it.

I attach project file and binary files I used for the sink only application, where I chose 15V.  You could utilize and modify it.

    Thanks,
