TUSB8041: Super speed only upstream

Can the TUSB8041 be used with Super Speed only upstream link? I'm trying to use it with an acitve optical cable but no luck so far.

    Functionally yes, the TUSB8041 can support SS only operation, but the hub driver on the USB host controller may expect the USB 2.0 hub to be connected along with the USB 3.x hub. Also, if the upstream port of the hub is connected as SS only, no lower speed operation is supported.
