TCAN1042H: TCAN1042 CAN Termination Resister

Part Number: TCAN1042H

Dear Sir,

My customer would set TCAN1042H CAN bus termination resister 200ohm, have any affect by circuit electrical work?

Thanks!

Steven

  • Steven,

Would the effective termination resistance be 200 ohms? Or 200 ohms in parallel with another 120 ohm termination resistor?

The CAN bus should still work correctly, but the drivers are designed to drive the correct voltage levels over 60 ohms termination resistance. So your bus voltages may be lower/higher based on the lower current being driven.

    Regards,
  • Since the bus termination is also used to help the differential signal transition from the dominant to recessive state (i.e., by discharging the bus capacitance), using a higher termination resistance generally translates to slower signal transitions. This may limit the data rate at which a CAN bus can operate.
