TPS65988: TPS65988 End Application Question

Part Number: TPS65988

Hello E2E,

We are planning a new project which will use USB PD.

The idea behind this project is to have two USB-C ports. Its intended to be a Bus power device where ever possible.

Since we are concerned about the amount of power draw from a USB C port we are thinking about using two USB C ports. A host will try to connect to the device and if it has a low powered  USB port the second port would be used to supply power to it. However, the port supplying power could be either of the two. In that sense the ports will be fully functional for signals and PD.

Have you seen a design like this and is there any collateral you can share?  Feel free to email me offline.

It would require two PD ports, but only one of the ports will be a power source. The power source port will depend on which one was used for the host data.

I am thinking that this would be a good fit for the TPS65988.  Do you see any issues with using this device in this application?  If it will work, are there any "gotcha's" that we should be aware about?

Thanks!

Russell
