DS90UB954-Q1: 953/954 Operae in Different Mode

Part Number: DS90UB954-Q1

Hello Team,

DS90UB953/4-Q1 can be set in synchornous or non-synchronous mode. May I know what mode the parts operate in when 953 is set in non-synchronous mode and 954 is set in synchronous mode?
When 953 is in non-sync mode, it uses local external or internal oscillator as clk source(f) for forward channel (fc = f x 80)and expects back channel frequency 10Mbps from DES.
When 954 is in sync mode, does it expect forward channel sent from 953 recovered from its back channel?

Thank you.

Regards,
Jimmy

  • Jimmy,
In the synchronous clocking mode, the deserializer provides the clock to the serializer through the back channel which is used as the reference clock for the forward channel (and also for the image sensor) to the deserializer.
In non-sync mode the serializer needs an external reference clock which is used for the forward channel.
You can refer to the DS90UB953 datasheet section 7.4.1 for details on clocking modes.
  • Hi Team,

Thank you for the prompt reply!
Sorry let me reframe my question.
Would it cause any link lost or other problems if I set 953 in non-sync mode and 954 in sync-mode?

    Thank you.

    Jimmy

  • Jimmy,
in either sync. or aync. mode, the unlock reason is same: link jitter margin is NOT enough, some reasons:
1.trasmitter side power supply noise, layout crosstalk, etc.
    2. cable/connector s11/s21/impedance, crosstalk etc.
    3. receiver power supply noise and crosstalk, layout, pcb trace etc.

    best regards,
    Steven
