SN55LBC180: Using only driver side of RS485 transceiver in half duplex communication.

Part Number: SN55LBC180

Hello.

I have two different RS485/422 TCX which are connected end to end.

On one side, the IC's P/N is SN55LBC180, and the other side's is LTM2881HY-5.

I 've listed physical and electrical conditions below.

*The distance btw the units is 30 meter.

*The connection will establish as seen in the attached image.

Restriction: Since the both side units are manufactured, i can not change anything to them. I should make the communication btw two finished units.

The question is :

Is there any EMI/EMC weakness or communication problem on the bus.

  • Hi Burak,

I don't see any issues with this approach as long as data only needs to from the LBC180 to the LTM2281. As long as the receiving device keeps it's driver enable (DE) control low then having the TX lines connected to the bus should not have any significant impact. Please let me know if this is unclear or if you have any specific concerns.

    Regards,
    Max
