TUSB8044: SuperSpeed USB connectivity is disabled for slow devices

Part Number: TUSB8044

Hi

Please clarify the statement from  TUSB8044 datasheet:

"When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports high-speed or full-speed/low-speed connections, SuperSpeed USB connectivity is disabled on the downstream ports"

The disabling Super Speed for all 4 -ports of the hub? That means one slow device lowers the speed for all the others?

BR,

Mark.

  • HI Mark,

USB 3.0 traffic and USB 2.0 traffic run on separate signals, there is no conversion between the two buses.  If the upstream port of the hub is connected to a host that supports USB 2.0 only, everything connected downstream to the hub runs at USB 2.0 speeds.  If the upstream port of the hub is connected to a host at both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 speeds, any speed device can be attached to a downstream port of the hub without impacting the other downstream ports.

    Regards,

    JMMN
