TLK3132 auto negotiation mode and reference schematic and layout guideline for TLK3132

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK3132

Hi,

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 In developing PCI Express based Network interface card, one is using TLK3132 for SERDES to GMII conversion for packet processing between MAC and PHY with help of FPGA's.

So, how the Auto-negotiation stuff would work through MAC-TLK3132-FPGA-TLK3132-VSC8221. How it will handle the /C/ and /I/ ordered sets for Auto Negotiation control. Does it discard them internally? If so, then the Auto-negotiation between MAC-Phy through SGMII how we will be able to retrieve the information. In clause 37 of 802.3 for Auto Negotiation, they defined Auto-negotiation at PCS layer using /C/ and /I/.

For GMII and MII, the negotiation stuff was accessible through MDIO/MDC Management interface even though Auto-negotiation was happening in PCS layer between the phy link partners using PCS subcoding. So there was no requirement using the GMII/MII interface. But with SGMII where it extends the same PCS layer, now the negotiation controls are directly communicated through SGMII.

Also, I need any reference schematic and layout guideline for TLK3132.

Kindly suggest and assist.

Thanks and Regards,

C.Pradeep

  • Hello C. Pradeep,

Sorry for this delayed response. A colleague responded to your message but for some reason his response didn't get posted. Please find it below:

Please note the TLK3132 does not support SGMII operation. Also,  the device does not support  1GbE auto negotiation (page 10 of the data sheet).  In TBI mode, the data passes through the device, since the data is already coded, without alteration so it should pass the character codes in question.

Please contact your local TI support for TLK3132 reference schematic and layout. Please ask them to contact me (Hassan Ali) if further information is needed.

    Best regards.

    Hassan.
