TPS65983B: Design question

Part Number: TPS65983B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D

Hello.

We have some questions need to ask you for advice.

1. Thunderbolt type C we only use 3A@5V, will not use 6~20V, please help confirm the TPS65983B setting.

2. If it is 3A@5V output, is TPS65983B limiting 3A by itself?

3. PW_VCCHV_SYS is not supported. What should I do with SENSEP/SENSEN (ball B10, A10)?

4. HV_GATE1/2 (A9/B9) does not support 6~20V. What should I do?

5. SPI ROM,

a. What is the information burned inside, who should I ask for?
b. Intel CRB circuit diagram TPS65983B and Titan Ridge are directly connected to the ROM IC, indicating that both ICs will read the ROM data?
c. Is the ROM necessary to be externally connected? Can I write the required information from the EC through I2C?

6.Is HRESET must to use?

7. When is ResetZ used? If it is not used, what effect will it take?

8. When is MReset used? If it is not used, what effect will it take?

9. The TPS65983B support the BC1.2 function. What is the order of action when the phone is plugged in?

  • Hi AJ,

The TPS65983B is only supported in device designs that are following one of the Intel Reference designs. No changes are supported outside of those reference designs. If you are not following an Intel reference design, another PD controller should be used. Recommendation is to look into the TPS65987D.

    Thank you,
    Eric
