TCAN1043-Q1: Asking for the TCAN1043-Q1's short protection circuit detection

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1

Hi Team,

Can TCAN1043-Q1's short protection circuit detect "CANH short to CANL"or not?
or only can detect short to GND?

BR,
SHH

  • SHH,

The detection circuit for CAN bus faults works by sampling the differential current for any large differences to show a short to GND, battery, or VCC. Since they would be shorted together, the detection circuit would see it as recessive constantly, so there's no direct way to indicate a CANL to CANH short.

However, it would be evident immediately since the CAN bus would be constantly recessive, but the transmitting controller would recognize that the frames it is sending out do not match what the bus shows. If CANH and CANL were shorted together and then to GND, battery, or VCC, then it would be indicated as a CAN bus fault though.

    Does this make sense?

    Regards,
