TCA9535: Delay in communicating with TCA9535

Hello

            I am interfacing TCA9535 with a micro-controller using i2c communication. The PORT0 pins of the TCA9535 are connected to led. When led is made high using the write operation. The led is turned ON after some 4-5 millisecond delay. What might be the issue??
