TPD4S014: Vbus Cap

Part Number: TPD4S014

Hi,

in the TPD4S014 data sheet, we recommend 10 uF on Vbus.   I believe this is the max capacitance allowed on Vbus per the spec.  Do we really want that much capacitance on Vbus?  What is driving this requirement and what is the minimum we would recommend?  Is 1 uF acceptable?

Thanks,

Sal

  • Sal,

Lowering the capacitance below 10uF will cause more transient voltage drop when there are sudden increases in current. If the system is tolerant of these transients, then 1uF of capacitance is acceptable to the system. There is no minimum cap specified in the datasheet.
