WEBENCH® Tools/DP83869HM: SOME PROBLEMS ON DP83869HM

Part Number: DP83869HM

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Dear sir:

I have a few questions to ask.

1.Can this chip support optical input, RJ45 output, RJ45 input and optical output in MediaConvertor mode?

2.Media Convertor mode has two kinds of 1000M and 100M. Can these two modes switch automatically? Or if the chip can detect the change of input signal, MCU can set these two modes by reading the change of state.

3.Is the three PINs of LED_0~LED_2 not the output of the state lamp? Do they need to be connected with the default pull-up or pull-down?

4.Media Convertor can be set by configuring OPMODE_0~OPMDOE_2 at high and low levels, or must it be set by software.

  • Hi David,

    1. This device is designed to interface with an optical transceiver, usually in SFP form factor. Yes, it can support RJ45 input to optical output in media converter mode.

    2. That will require management from the MCU. If the MCU uses the registers which can determine which speed the copper side has established, then the fiber side can be reconfigured to match the speed.

    3. LED_0 ~ LED_2 have multiple functions. They can output the state of the link status, PHY. If you do not wish to use them, they may be left floating, and do not require a pull-up or pull-down. If using LED pins as straps, then they will need resistors present.

    4. Media converter mode can be configured by OPMODE_0 ~ OP_MODE2 straps. If you wish to change speeds between 100M and 1000M, using straps wont be possible, register configurations should be used.

    Best Regards,
