AC Power line communication

Hello,

We are looking at possibility to use AC-based Power Line Communication modems for bidirectional communication over 250 meters of cable. The data rate is very low (few kbps) but the line may be subject to noise,lightening or other transient events.

Is this technology reliable for such lengths, and does TI have a solution on this?
