RTOS/DS90UB914A-Q1: Connecting OV2311 FPD Link Camera to Multi-Des on TDA2x

Part Number: DS90UB914A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB953-Q1

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hi,

I have LI OV2311 FPD Link Camera module  https://leopardimaging.com/product/li-ov2311-fpdlinkiii/   and I want to connect it to multides board on TDA2x EVM Platform. http://www.spectrumdigital.com/fpd-link-iii-deserializer-board/

1. Is it possible to directly connect this camera to mutides board and get the image/video output.

2. As per multides board specs, it has DS90UB914A deserializer and LI OV2311 FPD Link has DS90UB953-Q serializer (http://www.ti.com/interface/fpd-link-serdes/camera-serdes/overview.html)

- Is this serializer and deserializer pair compatible ? What are the changes required to make them compatible?

Regards,

Uday M S

  • 1. Configurations are needed.

We have an app note on connecting 953 to 914.
DS90UB953-Q1 Backwards Compatibility Modes for Operation With Parallel Output Deserializers

Please take a look at the app note and let us know if you got any questions.

  • Thanks for sharing the document Charley.

I need more information on the Hardware Checks. (shown in the Figure 2 of the document).

I have attached a image showing my current hardware connections.

Can you let me know where exactly the HW modifications needs to be made as shown in the document ?

    Regards
    Uday M S

  • Hello,

    1. AC coupling capacitors need to be placed at DOUT+/- (serializer side) an RIN+/- (deserializer side)
    2. Mode pin on the 953 needs to be strapped accordingly for DVP mode (reference the datasheet)
    3. The 953 MUST have an external oscillator for it's CLKIN (pin 20 on device, reference the datasheet)
    4. Ensure proper data format is selected on the 934 side (RAW10 or RAW12HF). Reference datasheet.

You will need to locate the pins based on the datasheet and schematics for the board you have. If you are using the EVM, you can find the user guide to the EVM on the TI website to determine where the modifications need to be made.
  • Thanks Mostafa Shuva  for the reply.

As you can see in the previous post, I don't have physical access to the Serializer in the camera component(OV2311 Sensor + 953 Ser) that I have got from Leopard Imaging.

Is it possible to do the suggested changes outside the camera component (Over the cable) ?

    Thanks,
    Uday M S

  • Hello,

The pin strapping for DVP mode can be set in the software over the link. However the AC coupling caps would need to be placed on the serializer, as well as the oscillator (if one doesn't exist already).
