TPS65983: TPS65983B firmware questions

Part Number: TPS65983

Customer will goes Intel Alpine Ridge SP to design their project.

Questions:

1) Does it need to do TPS65983B PD FW modify if their end customer want to disable the charger function?
2) Or customer can just disconnect the PP_HV, PP_5V0, PP_CABLE and VBUS in Hardware?

Hi Peter,

TPS65983B is for use in designs that exactly follow an Intel reference design. There is a specific TPS65983B Configuration Tool that allows only permitted firmware customization.

Hi Peter,

I want to update my answer here: For Thunderbolt, it is still true that we need to follow the Intel Reference design. One option to disable the charger function is to select a reference design that has that feature. One of the bus powered reference designs would do this.
