TUSB1002A: Difference between TUSB1002A and TUSB1002 and position

Part Number: TUSB1002A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002, , HD3SS3202

Dear *,

1) Ti only has two IC that are re-driver only for USB3.1 Gen2

TUSB1002A and TUSB1002  is that correct?

2) Which one is better ->> TUSB1002A is a new device ?

3) DO we hate to put a re-driver on the UFP (Device side) ?

4) Where is the right place to put the redriver?

a) can we put the redriver between UPF device and HD3SS3202?

b) if we put the redriver between UFP and HD3SS3202 what is the recommended capacitor placement ?

c) do we need then to bias the HD3SS3202 and how?

Br,

D.

Please use TUSB1002A instead TUSB1002. Main difference between TUSB1002 and TUSB1002A is the change in the termination network.

Whether to use TUSB1002A is depending on the system implementation. If you are designing a system that will exceed USB spec'ed loss budget, then you will need to use re-driver. Please see link for additional detail info: e2e.ti.com/.../the-need-for-usb-type-c-redrivers.

Second block diagram is OK for the placement of HD3SS3202 and TUSB1002A.

On the TX, 100nF caps (required) between Type C connector and HD3SS3202, DC couple between HD3SS3202 and TUSB1002A, AC couple between TUSB1002A and UFP device.

On the RX, 330nF caps (optional) between Type C connector and HD3SS3202, DC couple between HD3SS3202 and TUSB1002A, AC couple between TUSB1002A and UFP device.

    Thanks

  • Dear David,

    1) the link is not working.

2)the AC coupling on TX and RX between HD3SS3202 and TUSB1002A need to be 100nF on RX and TX line?

3)Why is the 330nF optional? What is the benefit of those caps?

    4) Because the DC couple (direct connection) between HD3SS3202 and TUSB1002A, the HD3SS3202 is biased from TUSB1002A ?

    1) Apologize for the broken link, here is the correct link: e2e.ti.com/.../the-need-for-usb-type-c-redrivers.

    2) If TX and RX are already AC coupled between Type C connector and HD3SS3202, then TX and RX are DC coupled between HD3SS3202 and TUSB1002A.

    3) 330nF optional caps on RX is for ESD/EOS protection and also removed unwanted bias level from RX side.

    4) Correct.

    Thanks
    David
