Hi.

I'm developing a power bank based on TIDA-01627 with TPS65987D controller.

As this application uses a BQ25703 charger that has to be intialized by the TPS65987D, my device will need some configuration data to be loaded in the external flash so it can execute the initialization sequences.

My doubt is: What is the recommended programmer for production in this type of application?

The configuration tool user manual mentions the aardvark programmer and FTDI programmer, I can see that the FTDI is integrated in the TPS65987EVM but its pins are not accessible for use with external devices.

As the aardvark programmer is pretty expensive, is there some cheaper EVM integrating the FT4232 that can be used with custom boards based on TPS65987D?

Hi Angel,

I'm not aware of an alternate solution for this. All that is needed is a means to program the SPI Flash chip on their system. They don't necessarily need a means of connecting to the TPS65987D in their production system.

Hi Eric.

Thanks for your answer, that is more or less the impression I had, it is more simple to just break out the SPI pins of the flash to a programming connector and load the image with any generic programmer.

For the development process, is there any way to adapt a generic FTDI adapter to be used by the configuration tool? It has a pretty useful debugging mode, but buying a full EVM just for the FTDI interface looks like a little waste of resources.

Hi Angel,

We have only included drivers to work with the FTDI board that is included with our EVMs, we have not tested with other generic FTDI adapters and cannot guarantee it would work.
