TCAN1042GV-Q1: TCAN1042GV or TCAN4550 for faster message

Part Number: TCAN1042GV-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550-Q1, , TCAN4550

Hello,

If two messages are sent from the main vehicle communication ECU to another MCU exactly at the same time:

- one message is received with TCAN4550-Q1

- the other message is received through TCAN1042GV-Q1.

which message will be received first?

see picture attached.

Regards,

Jon

  • Hi Jon,

In both cases the time required for reception of CAN signals via the transceiver/PHY and frame decoding via the controller will be about the same. With the TCAN4550, though, the frame data would then have to be read out of the device's internal memory (MRAM) via SPI. The SPI overhead here would introduce some latency not present in the TCAN1042-based solution. How much latency would depend largely on the SPI implementation in the MCU.

Please let me know if this doesn't make sense or if you have further questions.

    Regards,
    Max
