ESD204: Pattern layout

Hi team,

(1) According to the datasheet, the recommended layout pattern is different between ESD204 and ESD224 as below. Could you explain the reason for the layout difference between ESD204 and ESD224 from the internal circuit point of view?

(2) Seeing the typical application in the datasheet of ESD204/224, TPD4E05U06 is used for the DDC interfaces. The DDC should be actually bi-directional but the TPD4E05U06 is the uni-directional device. Could you tell us why you use the uni-directional device for the DDC, and also why you don’t select ESD204 or ESD224 for the DDC? (ESD204/224 are not suitable for DDC?)

Hello,

The ESD224 has a series element so it has an input side and an output side.

The ESD204 has an ESD diode connected to one side and then the direct opposite pin is NC. This means that the same trace can be routed straight through the package with no disconnect.

It is my understanding that the DDC line does not go below ground so it should not be bidirectional.
