Linux/DP83TC811S-Q1: 1588 PTP protocol scheme

Part Number: DP83TC811S-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83TC811

Tool/software: Linux

Hi Team,

Could the DP83TC811S implement the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) ?

In the datasheet of DP83TC811S, it supports 1588 SFD, but there is no PTP scheme introduction.

Could you please tell me how to implement the PTP and could DP83TC811S provide the required information?

The following fig shows one of the PTP scheme. And I hope you can provide me the whole scheme to implement the PTP, many thanks.

Best regards

  • Hi,

As mentioned in the datasheet, the DP83TC811 supports an IEEE 1588 indication pulse at the SFD (start of frame delimiter) for receive and transmit paths. The 1588 SFD pulse indicates the actual time the symbol is presented on the lines (for transmit), or the first symbol received (for receive).

DP83TC811 does not do time stamping or parsing the PTP packets.

    Regards,

    Hung Nguyen
