DP83848I: Position of termination resistor on TX_CLK signal

Part Number: DP83848I

Good day,

Where should the 33R termination resistor be placed physically on TX_CLK signal? In document SNLR022 (2005), the resistor is placed on the processor side. In document SNLS266E (2015) the TX_CLK signal is defined as output from the DP8384 circuit, so I think it should be physically placed on the DP8384 circuit side.

In document SNLA079D (2013) in figure 2 Bob-Smith termination is connected to system ground (PHY Device). Is it OK?

Thank you and have a nice day.

  • Hi,

You are correct. In MII mode, TX_CLK will be a output pin. Termination resistor should be physically be placed near the source, so close to the TX_CLK pin of the PHY.

For Bob smith termination, its acceptable to connect it to system ground. However, for better immunity performance it is recommended to connect it to Earth ground.
